Sony’s PlayStation 4 was released two years ago to critical acclaim and commercial success. To coincide with this anniversary, Sony has today revealed that their current-gen consolehas sold over 30 million units worldwide.“We are sincerely grateful that gamers across the globe have continued to choose PS4 as the best place to play since launch two years ago,” said President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, Andrew House, in a press release. “We are committed to bringing engaging games and entertainment services to users worldwide. Thanks to the support of our partners, PS4 continues to be the premier platform for game and interactive entertainment innovation.”The PlayStation 4 “continues to demonstrate the fastest and strongest growth in PlayStation hardware history,” according to Sony. Though the PlayStation 2 is currently the best selling console of all time with 155 million units sold worldwide, the PlayStation 4 has outsold its predecessor during its first two years on the market, comparatively speaking.Recently, the PlayStation 4 received a permanent price cut in North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan. The console will drop to $299.99 during the Thanksgiving/Black Friday weekend which will no doubt help bolster sales of the console. Add to that the number of anticipated titles being released in the upcoming months including: Bloodborne: The Old Hunter’s Edition, Dragon Quest Builders, Gravity Rush Remastered, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and it’s a safe bet that the PlayStation 4 will continue its success well into 2016.
