HBO head takes leave

first_img“Two years ago, I decided that I could handle drinking again. Clearly, I was wrong. Given that truth, I have committed myself to sobriety. I intend to take a temporary leave of absence from HBO effective today, in order to go back to working with AA.” Albrecht said he was “deeply sorry for what occurred in Las Vegas this weekend and for any embarrassment it caused my family, the company I love, and myself.” He called the weekend a “wake-up call to me of a weakness I thought I had overcome long ago.” While he wasn’t free to discuss the incident while authorities and his attorneys are “still determining the facts, it is my hope to do so in the near future,” Albrecht said in his statement. A call to the Clark County, Nev., District Attorney’s Office regarding the arrest was not immediately returned Tuesday. On Sunday in Las Vegas, the HBO chairman and chief executive was arrested for investigation of assaulting his girlfriend outside the MGM Grand casino. The arrest came just hours after Saturday’s Oscar De La Hoya-Floyd Mayweather Jr. boxing match aired on pay-per-view by HBO. Officers assigned to the match reported seeing Albrecht fighting with a woman identified only as his girlfriend in the MGM Grand’s valet parking lot shortly after 3 a.m., a Las Vegas police spokesman said. Albrecht was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and held for investigation of a misdemeanor battery-domestic assault. He was later released.160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations! You’re all set! Parsons said in a statement. HBO Inc. is a division of Time Warner. In a statement sent to HBO staff members and released publicly Tuesday, Albrecht said he had been a “sober member” of Alcoholics Anonymous for 13 years. last_img read more

GOLF NEWS: CONOR MCGETTIGAN IN FINE FORM AT NORTH WESTERN GOLFING ALLIANCE MEETING

first_imgNorth Western Golfing Alliance News:The NW Golfing Alliance recommenced it’s 2014/15 golfing season with their annual visit to Portsalon G.C., recently elevated to the rank of 23rd in the Irish Golf Digest “Best Courses in Ireland”The pleasant conditions of Saturday 7th, following the snow and rainstorms of recent weeks, were more than welcomed and, seemingly ignorant of any damage that the course may have received, members returned some fine scores showing that some golfers relished their layoff for the past few months. Popular winner of the nett prize on the day was Letterkenny G.C. member Conor Mc Gettigan [12]. Indeed, the first three winners on the day all had 17 points after nine holes, but following 12th Billy Hutchman [12] had a point lead over both Conor and Maurice McGettigan [17]. However, the ever resilient Conor moved into the lead after 15th which he held to the end. Second place went to Billy, beating Maurice into third place on break of tie.Maurice’s placing consolidated his position as leader of the Golfer of the Year in the Nett section and with two “counting” competitions to go, is leading on 32pts. His brother Odran, also from Strabane G.C., is second on 22pts and in third place is, indeed, the third member of that Strabane contingent, Eddie McHugh with 17pts..In the Gross section after nine holes, North West’s Michael McGeady was leading on 37 strokes, followed by Finnian O’Doherty and Seamus McMonagle both a stroke behind on 38. However, the scene had changed somewhat coming of the 12th green. Finnian had had two birdies and a bogey, Seamus had one birdie and Michael had dropped a stroke. Therefore, as they approached the last three holes, the story was that Finnian was ahead by one while Michael was one ahead of Seamus! The final three holes then saw Finnian hold on despite dropping a stroke at the 17th par 5, which the other two players parred, and so Finnian beat Michael on the break of tie on the inward nine countback while Seamus was one stroke further back to take third place.Finnian is now well ahead in the Golfer ofthe Year Gross section on 38pts, vindicating his decision to return early from his “tour” of the States, with Seamus on 28pts and Noel Callan dropping to third on 26pts..
