Man City v Man United: Mike Phelan warns hosts will be fired up for derby clash

first_imgMike Phelan has warned Manchester United to expect a fired up Manchester City this weekend.City have failed to win any of their last three games in all competitions, and many are backing United to heap more misery on their rivals when they meet at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. But Phelan, Sir Alex Ferguson’s former right-hand man at Old Trafford, reckons Manuel Pellegrini’s star-studded side will be right up for the occasion.Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: “They seem to be showing a little bit of inconsistency at the moment but that happens with teams sometimes, you take your eye off the game a little bit and it can upset you, but City are a top team, with top players.“In these big games, these derby games, your top players need to perform and need to show up, and I am sure they will be ready for it.”City will be without playmaker David Silva for the derby clash, while the visitors may welcome back Wayne Rooney.Phelan says, despite Silva’s absence, United are still the underdogs, but he is backing his old club to come away from the Etihad with a point.“The loss of Silva could be something they miss but I don’t think he played in the game last season, and City went on to win 4-1,” he added.“I actually thing there are goals in this game with the strikeforce of both teams. I think this could be an even 2-2.”Manchester City v Manchester United is live on talkSPORT in the UK on Sunday and live on talkSPORT.com outside the UK and Ireland, kick-off 13.30last_img read more
