Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Welcomes Alecia Chakour At The Sunshine Music Fest

first_imgBeloved Grateful Dead tribute band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played the third night of a four night run in the Southeast yesterday, hitting venues in Nashville, TN and Columbia, SC before heading to the Tedeschi Trucks Band-hosted Sunshine Music Festival in St. Petersburg, FL. Almost Dead has been on an absolute tear throughout the run, undoubtedly fueled by the energy of a debut at the historic Ryman Auditorium. With two nights to play at the Sunshine Fest, the band settled in for a great set of Grateful Dead classics. The band opened up with “Ruben & Cherise”, setting the pace for a fun set with the classic tune. They rocked into “Eyes Of The World” as well, before calling on guest vocalist Alecia Chakour to highlight their rendition of “Turn On Your Love Light.” As a Brooklyn native, Alecia is no stranger to Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, having collaborated with them many times over. This performance was a bit more unique, however, as Ms. Chakour was on hand with her current outfit, Tedeschi Trucks Band. She lent her fiery vocals to the great “Love Light” before rejoining her TTB crew. The set continued with a selection of upbeat Dead tunes, including bluesy numbers like “Alligator” and “Cumberland Blues.” They kept the vibes up with a big “Shakedown Street,” and closed out the set with “The Greatest Story Ever Told” into “One More Saturday Night.” You can watch a video of “Cumberland” below, courtesy of Eric Beringer on YouTube.Joe Russo’s Almost Dead will travel to Boca Raton today for the second of two shows at the festival.
